Corgi Austin seven 225

Very poor state, covered in paint and no tires. I took it apart including removing the wheel hubs. These were pressed on and were eased off with a screwdriver. Had they not slipped off easily I would not have used a screwdriver, I may have driven the axle out with a pin on a block of wood. The body and chassis were dropped in a bath of caustic soda which removed most of the paint and then a second bath. This still did not do the job so I used some regular acidic paint stripper. The windows were covered in paint and by running it under hot water the paint was removed using my fingernail. Still with a couple of blemishes was re-useable. I finished it with metal polish and it really did not look too bad. The rivets were drilled again using a #43 bit to as deep as I dare and threaded with a 4-40 tap so the base plate could be put in place with short screws. You never know when it will need re-finishing again and screws are much easier to use than rivets. Wheels were cleaned with metal polish and reatt
ached to the axle using a small vice, new tires were fitted. A little vaseline to the axles for a free ride and the whole thing trimmed with painted grill bumpers and lights. The finished car is quite unremarkable but far better than before.
