Dinky Foden Chain Truck 905

A dissappointing ebay purchase. The cab is glued to the bed, the second axle is glued to the chassis plate, no spare wheel. There was only one image to look at and I had no time to question the seller. Seller was at fault for not describing the model properly but I should have given it more time. So this becomes a new restoration project. First job was to strip the paint. I used aircraft paint stripper as this is quite powerful stuff and I was hoping that it would remove the epozy resin. Paint came off but not the epoxy. Next plan was to use heat and I used a heat gun, as you may use to strip paint. This worked perfectly, it destroyed the epoxy without further damage to the truck. All parts were cleaned and prepared for repair. The cab was reattached to the chassis using thin sheet metal and bonded with metal based epoxy resin. The wheel arches were repaired with metal resin and the bumper in a similar fashion but built up using several applications. The three chain posts that were not original we
re actually made out of brass and soldered in place. I reshaped the bases to look more original. Also to note is that the second axle was cut to facilitate reassembly and will have to be replaced. A final clean and a layer of primer was applied followed by several top coats. Black for the chassis and deep red for the cab and back. The chain was cleaned with soapy water and a scrub. Detailing only required now. Ref:E417
